iPads and MORE!

run-turkey-timeWe did A LOT of learning on our iPads this week.  We created Keynote presentations about shapes,  we learned how to read eBooks on our iPads and discovered how to access a new app we will begin using in our classroom called eBackpack.  See?  We did a lot of good learning on our iPads!  But . . . that’s not where the learning stopped.  We also played a shape game, listened to an author read aloud to us, and continued to write our teaching books.  Continue to read below to see us in action!  Also, be sure to read about our upcoming ABC123 Night – you don’t want to miss it!  Thanks for visiting our blog!

Conversation Starters:

  • This week, you heard another book that has been nominated for the Missouri ShowUnknown-1 Me Award.  The book is  The Spelling Bee Before Recess.  Your class talked the main idea and you wrote about it.  What did you decide was the main idea?  Why do you believe this to be true?

Math Work – Shape Presentations, Games and a Snack: This week, we continued working on geometry during math.  Each first grader went on a shape hunt around our school and then created a Keynote presentation on their iPad which showed the shapes they found.  Our mathematicians also played a shape game called Geobands (similar to the at-home game, Headbandz).  And finally, each first grader created a snack with shapes.  Check out some of the photos from our FUN math learning over the past week.

iPad Learning: This week, we learned A LOT of new things we can do on our iPads.  As you just read, we learned how to make Keynote presentations in order to present information to one another in a slideshow format.  We also learned how to electronically checkout and read eBooks on our iPads.  And finally, we learned how to get to eBackpack, an app we will begin using in the next few weeks in order to access, modify and submit electronic documents.  Check out a couple of our tech-photos below.

Visiting Kirkwood Author: We had the privilege to hear from a local author this week, Tom Johnston.  He read his book Lucky the Reindeer to the entire first grade and we LOVED it.  We even made some Lucky puppets on sticks because we loved him so much!  It was so much fun to celebrate writing and reading by honoring a local author in our library this week.51lM6oTzWYL._SX258_BO1,204,203,200_

A Smile for You!  In our classroom, we have had a flashback of a game from MY youth, which our kiddos have really enjoyed.  Enjoy the happy faces on these first graders as they smiled alongside their Lite Brite creation and hopefully it will make you smile too.  Have a great weekend!
