We love science in first grade! Especially when it means that we get to make posters to share with the class AND visit the zoo! What fun stuff! We have had done a lot of work lately and have had a great time doing it. And, as mentioned in last week’s post, we are s-l-o-w-l-y diving into some Halloween activities because the FUN day is coming very soon! (Hopefully the mummy reminds you of that too!) Read on to learn about a couple of things we did last week.
- Conversation Starters
- Science Work
- Zoo Field Trip
- Report Cards
- A Smile for You
- Tell me about the new chapter book you are reading called Flat Stanley. How did Stanley become flat? What are some of the things he can do now that he is flat?
- What was your favorite animal you saw at the zoo? What was that your favorite?
- What surprised you most at the zoo? Why did this surprise you?
Science Work: Last week we did A LOT of work to explore and learn about the universe. After all of the work, each partnership taught the class about his or her research questions and then about the moon, objects in the daytime sky and objects in the nighttime sky. It was a great learning opportunity, as you will notice below. First, check out the photos of all of the posters. Then, be patient and look at the slideshow of each partnership sharing their posters and teaching the class about their learning. Yay for first grade scientists!
Zoo Field Trip: As you know, we went on an incredible field trip to the zoo last week. Personally, I haven’t been to the zoo in over two years, so it was a great time for me as well! Every single first grader I talked to from our amazing Robinson bunch told me what a wonderful time they had during our field trip. You can see it in the smiles on their faces in the photos below. Also, you might notice that there aren’t many animals in the photos. Hmph. That’s kind of silly since we were at the zoo, huh? I guess I figured that the kids were more photo-worthy than the animals since you’ve probably seen animals before. But I bet you haven’t seen smiles like these! 🙂
Report Cards: This is just a reminder that report cards from first quarter will go home this Wednesday with your child. There will be a sheet on top of the report card that is so incredibly important for you to read. I believe it’s so critical that I am including it below so you can read it here before you get it in the report card envelope on Wednesday. This way, you can read it twice! 🙂
A Smile for You: Here it is! Your smile for the week! I know Leanna has been in some of our photos to make you smile, but I just couldn’t resist this one. She’s so cute with her smile in the photo that I think it is impossible for it not to make you smile too. What do you think? Did you smile with her? I hope so. 🙂 Have a wonderful week.
